India untouched by Suzuki’s recall of over one lakh Swift

Nation’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Monday stated its operations aren’t afflicted with the reported worldwide recall of over one lakh Swift compact cars by its Japanese parent Suzuki.

“The Swift cars made and sold in India by Maruti Suzuki are not impacted by this recall,” a Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) spokesperson said.

Maruti Suzuki enters utility vehicle segment with Ertiga

Maruti Suzuki India launched a multi-utility vehicle in New Delhi designed specifically for the Indian market. The ‘Ertiga’ targets premium hatch buyers and sedan customers.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd entered the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) segment on Thursday with the Ertiga, pitched against similar vehicles made by rivals such as Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, Tata Motors Ltd and Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd, as it seeks to regain market share amid a slowdown in sales.

Ertiga creates a new category

After the success of Swift, small car giant Maruti Suzuki now hopes to create ripples in the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) space with the launch of the Ertiga on Thursday.

As with the premium hatchback, the company expects to create a new category with the introduction of the Ertiga in the Indian market. Shashank Srivastava, chief general manager (sales & marketing), Maruti Suzuki, says unlike other MPVs, which are tagged upwards of Rs 9-10 lakh, Ertiga has been designed for buyers looking at upgrading from hatchbacks to a larger vehicle at an affordable price.

Toyota to assemble Camry in India

Japanese auto major Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd on Friday announced plans to locally assemble its premium sedan, Camry, in India at its Bangalore factory.

The car would be assembled from July and re-launched in August in the market with a revised price tag. Till date, Toyota has been importing around 300 units of the Camry every year from Japan. Camry is the only car in its segment that is completely imported. Its competitors like Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb and Honda Accord are all assembled in India.

Passenger vehicles: Maruti Suzuki sees a rebound, but it’s tough going for auto

Maruti Suzuki, the leader in the four-wheeler domestic passenger vehicle (PV) segment, saw a rebound in its market share in the first two months of the March 2012 quarter, in contrast to sluggish performance in the first three quarters of the current fiscal due to labour problems.

Sales volumes for January and February benefited from the increased supply of diesel engines at a time when diesel-run cars are in vogue.

Renault launches new diesel Fluence priced at Rs 15.2 lakh

Car maker Renault India today launched a new diesel variant of its premium sedan ‘Fluence’ in the country, priced at Rs 15.2 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

“Fluence was the first offering from Renault in India. The new upgraded variant is about our commitment to the Indian market and is a result of the feedback we received from our customers,” Renault India Managing Director Marc Nassif told reporters here.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga to be launched next month

The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) is turning to the multi-purpose vehicle segment with its upcoming model Ertiga, as it looks to complete its portfolio of passenger vehicles.

The vehicle will witness its global launch next month in India that has seen an investment of about Rs 400 crore by the company as development cost.
